Iris 2

Just picked up a 12C and the IRIS 2 touch screen doesn't seem to work down the middle. Tried a reboot but still happens. Is the screen bad or do I just need an update?

Thanks!

It's a known problem with Gen1 of the IRIS 2. It's a known problem and if you have warranty, something they will take care of. Gen 2 of the IRIS 2 screen fixes the issue.

In the mean time, instead of tapping/touching your fingers around that area, SMEAR your finger instead. It will get you by until you get it fixed.

No warranty at this time. So if I just buy a replacement screen, should be able to plug and play for correction?

Contact Evan in service at McLaren Philadelphia and ask him what your options are. Tell him Troy sent you.

Before I put a call in, will it matter if I'm not local (Texas based)?

If you're willing to ship your car and they give you a price, it shouldn't be an issue. Philadelphia brings in cars from all over the country (a lot of P1's as well). Up to you - they've taken great care of me and have an excellent service department.

Even if you don't service with them, perhaps talk to Evan and see what your options are. He's more than willing to pass on what other previous customers have done, etc.

I have 30,000 miles on my MP4, I always use the radio etc. I have experienced and been told the touch screens do wear out. The touch screen is a warranty item, all you have to do is show McLaren the areas you touch and get no response.
Bad news, if you do not have a warranty, there are two halves to the IRIS II and the top half is $8,000.00 plus labor.
I feel bad for those who rarely drive their McLarens, some of the things need time, miles to make sure they operate well. this is an auto which can drive all day long and is enjoyable, DRIVE your McLaren, do not let it sit. Enjoy it. I am thinking, once more is known about a McLaren, the higher miles ones will have a greater value because they will be perfect where as a lower mileage one will have all sorts of issues. a good example if my 1988 Porche Werks Turbo-Look. I have 216,000 miles on it. mine had never been rebuilt because I drive it regular. similar ones with under 50,000 miles need to have engines, transmissions, and suspensions rebuilt, what a waste... I also smoged my CA Porsche last week and was told it is the cleanest one he has ever seen, it passed smog easily.
Drive your McLarens, they love to be enjoyed daily...

...just re-read this and it made me smile. If out of warranty forget about this merry-go-around and use your phone as the media hub.
