MP4-12C Service Manual Available

I have compiled a 291 page service manual for the MP4-12C.
I believe compiling this information and making it available is a service to the entire McLaren community from dealers to current and prospective owners. Now that used examples are dropping in price, we are entering a new territory of DIYers, people who simply love working on their own cars, and even people that wouldn't purchase one if they couldn't service it themselves! Coming from the Porsche GT3 world, I almost didn't buy my MP4-12C for this very reason. As such, having service and repair information available makes a used 12C a much more attractive proposition, whether youre a current owner looking to sell, or a potential buyer looking to take the McLaren plunge for the first time.

Inside, you will find detailed step by step illustrated instructions on the service procedures, service intervals, for every service up to 15 years/150,000 miles. All relevant fastener sizes and torque specifications are also included. The information is assumed to be accurate and I am not responsible for any errors, omissions, or typographical errors.

I have printed the service manual in color for myself, along with a few extras, on high quality, 32 pound, 8.5x11 glossy paper and spiral bound. It has cost me a great deal of time and money to produce this, as such I need to recover my investment.

I am offering the manual to fellow McLaren Life members at the cost of $250.00 shipped within the continental United States. PM me if you would like to purchase one.

I hope Im not violating any forum rules - Im a fellow McLaren owner, enthusiast, and Mechanical Engineer not affiliated with any automotive business.

PM sent and offer to help on related projects for the benefit of the Mc community.

(because I have always worked on everything I've owned as I enjoy it)

Even if you don't work on your car I see this to be a major benefit to have. Count me in.

Valentin,
Firstly, I applaud the effort. The clandestine manner in which such things are guarded is really frustrating.
But just so we understand what $250 buys; How much does this manual cover? Routine service items only, or for relevant example, would it show a member how to remove and change the exhaust system or strip out the door trims to upgrade the speakers?

Best, F

The manual covers service related items only. If you look at the image of the table of contents, I reference the specific procedures.

Does that mean, you can skip yearly maintenance at the dealership once you have this manual and you can do it yourself? What about warranty?

I would never skip the service until your warranty is over, service at the dealer also gets the firmware updates.

Once warranty is gone then you are free to do it yourself.

Let me point something out very clearly.

Owning this manual does not make you a competent technician, just like owning a seismic design handbook doesn't qualify you to design skyscrapers.

If you have never worked on a high end modern car, I suggest you do not purchase this manual and do not attempt to perform the maintenance yourself.

The manual is only valuable to already mechanically inclined individuals, who don't need to be reminded to oil o-rings, hand-start threaded fasteners, and replace crush washers.

Having said that, the information provided within is crucial for even highly experienced technicians to perform something as trivial as an engine oil change correctly.

i.e. if you don't know what you are doing, don't learn on your McLaren.
