Default Laptimes Dunsfold "Topgear track" MP4-12C

Laptimes:

1336 kg without Pirelli Corsa tires 1min 14.118 seconds

1301 kg "Light weight package" With Corsa tires 1min 12.915

The Spider that comes next year is less than 0.5 seconds of pace of the coupe's.

MP4-12C GT : 1min 11.409 seconds

MP4-12C GTR (calculated predictions for the GTR) <1min 09 min seconds.

Where does this information comes from? From a McLaren dealer in London who got the info from Paragon (McLaren) :-)

Happy days are here again!

Ps!

The GTR could cost 250000 sterling pounds - That's a bargain!:-)

Not sure how up-to-date this list is, but a 1:14 puts it at the very top!

Interesting!,however i would take these claims with a pinch of salt,i hope im wrong, but ive been taken round dunsfold by a racing driver (2up,worn tyres) at 1.24,no way could he get round 11 seconds quicker on such a short circuit. Also on the same day i asked chris goodwin about the fact they had beaten the track record. His answer was they had beaten everything with a roof and doors, but not the v8 atom,so a time between 1.16.8 and 1.15.1 which is still unreal for a road car,but 1.12.9 for corsas seems a bit rich

The 458 at 1:19.1 is downright slow to a 1:14 or 1:15.

Default True or false?

100% true laptimes. just wait and see that it is realistic laptimes from Chris Goodwin that he could do 1.14 laptimes any given day

IF those times are real, are the lap times mentioned above perhaps flying laps as opposed to the standing start laps from the stig?

Roughly how much time do you lose on that track with a standing start?

If the times above are correct and from a standing start, the competition has a BIG problem and they will probably wonder what just happened....

On second thought I guess the thing to ask then would be: WHAT "competition"?

GT and GTR are the upcoming road going special versions ? (GT being a 458 Scuderia competitor?) Any rumoured specs ?

They already tested the GT version and the spyder ? Or are these calculations as well as GTR´s time using their advanced F1 simulating software.

These are dry weights.. You have to add 80-100kgs for the gross weight. Lightest specification mp12 is around 1410 kgs

Like AndyC, I sat in the car for several fast laps of Dunsfold with one of McLaren's "tame" racing/test drivers and also clocked around 1:24 from a rolling start (start finish line was half way round the laps that we were doing). Can't believe that 10 plus seconds could be shaved off that time, even with new rubber and pads.

Love to be proved wrong, but lets be realistic, not many of us could even get near 1:24 with our own skills, so its all a bit academic and Top Trumps talk.

Its how is goes and handles on the roads, in our hands, that really matters.

WOW NO WAY ..........why then has McLaren been mum about lap times.......Porsche released GT2 RS and RS 4.0 'RING' times before the cars even came out.......with those amazing numbers they should be LOUD AND PROUD

On the other hand, 458 is at 1:19.1, which is already 5 secs faster.I have no doubt MP4 will be faster than 458. Let's say by 2 secs. Then, the realistic time is 7 sec off of the time you measured. Can you really tell the difference between 7 and 10 secs from your experience? Or do you think Macca will be slower than 458?

Hi kryzs,i think zippycar and i both have no doubt the 12c is well ahead of the 458,so between the bug ss 1.16.7 and 1.15.1 of the atom seems about right with what we know and also with what weve been told, but 1.12.9 with corsas
seems too far even for someone as enthusiastic as me!!!p.s the mags havent got any press cars yet,so no full tests until june at the earliest ,and not published until july or august i think, but i hope they get them sooner

I had the same opportunity a few weeks ago and, on contrary, I believe it is possible to be much faster than the hot laps we got. In my case, the McLaren test driver was obviously trying to maximise the impression made on passengers / potential buyers rather than his lap times. Whether it would have been possible to save 10 seconds is another story.
