Rather than enveloping you like the Bose systems in my old 911's, Audis or the Harmon/Kardon system in my M3 the Meridian sound stage seems to be very front weighted and projected from the front footwell area. The frequency response seems to be far from flat too. I have tried all the settings to get an acceptable sound and even when shifting the F/R balance very much to the rear things don't sound well balanced and rather than feeling the sound stage is surrounding you you are made very aware of the position of each speaker! As you increase the system volume other settings appear to change too - It's like there's an ill-adjusted DSP in the system!

As a result I haven't bothered with the ICE system, preferring to listen to the engine instead!

The good news is that McLaren are well aware of this and are currently working with Meridian on improving the configuration.
Meridian had a meeting with Mclaren last week and hopefully this will be addressed. I am passing all your feedback on to Meridian in the hope they can improve the system to your liking.

Hi Gadget

Whilst you are passing info back to Meridian, can you ask about DAB. I have been told that it's not included as there is only a small Market for it. I use it all the time in the Uk"........ comments?

Not fully, whatever you do results in what I think is a strange sound envelope...

20 years ago I bought a special separate Yamaha DSP for my outrageous car audio system. After playing with it ad infinitum I pulled it out. For me I like it flat. My next system I used those huge waveguide speakers under the dash that make for a huge soundstage out in front and enjoyed those quite a bit, but they required an EQ to get a flat sound.

In the mid 90s I competed for sound quality. Never did compression drivers, though! I'd love to hear more details, Falb.

People used to say that I "put the 'anal' in 'analog.' " I was pretty obsessive about it.

Because McLaren.

yes we dont have had to pay dorris...
and fortunately...

we know gps and bluetooth don't operate but i'm a bit disappointed too about the sound quality, lack of bass or dynamic loudness, lack of presence.

The ergonomic aspect is completely missed with that big switch who only control the volume. (the menu arent comprehensive or intuitive etc..)

with the inconel exhaust, it's better to switch off morris...

Guys like I said when I introduced myself is I run a Meridian Audio Boutique in Oxford but its Home Audio.
But I know the guy who runs the Car Audio side very well and I am passing all your feedback on to him.
The more helpful the feedback the better it will be. As they make improvements I will post them on here so you can see whats coming.
Don't forget that Meridian had nothing to do with the actual head unit this was designed by someone else.

Chris,

Will do although they are correct in the fact it is still a small market. Meridian have nothing to do with the Head Unit though but I will still get them to feedback the info.

I found the paragraph belwo on the Internet along with various other stories about the planned FM switch off possibly being delayed:

We’re told the third quarter of 2011 (July–Sept) has seen a record high of new vehicle registrations with digital radio as standard. Paul Everitt, CEO of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) announced that a record 18% of new vehicles now have digital radio as standard, a 340% increase from last September’s 5.3%. He also said that nearly half of cars (45%) now have digital radio as standard or an option. The automotive industry has been asked by Government to prepare for a transition to digital radio, and the SMMT expects its members to include digital radio as standard in most vehicles by the end of 2013.

I reckon that DAB will be needed sooner rather than later. Personally I use it a lot and although coverage is not perfect, the same can be said of FM as I am sure anyone who has taken a lengthy journey on our motorways will agree. I hope the upgrade that will undoubtedly be necessary will not be too costly. I think the full blown entertainment system, whenever it becomes available, is going to look a little lack-lustre at £5000 without DAB. Of course there is a possibility that DRM will also have to be accommodated in the not too distant future too......

As an early adopter who got the system for free I shouldn't grumble and in point of fact I am happy to manage without DAB. Compared to the system in my 599 it is already much better anyway!

Don't get me wrong Syd I think DAB is a great idea. Yes the survey is great but what about all the older cars on the road that haven't got DAB. I will put money on it the Analogue radio signal will still be on in 2020.
As for DRM I don't think this will be a problem either you have to remember that iTunes have just removed this I can't see them bringing it back.

Default Meridian Factory Visit

How many MP4-12C owners are there on here from the UK now and if I can organise it how do you fancy a tour of the Meridian Audio factory in Huntingdon?

Put your name down here and I will see what I can do.

I also do F1 meets here http://www.meridian-audio.com/news/2...in-oxford.aspx during the season and we could have a McLaren day?

Let me know
