Changing Key Fob Battery - ##$#@@

I have changed batteries in key fobs for so many different cars and never, ever have I had so much difficulty as I am having with the 650S. There is this f@cking loose metal battery holder that won't stay in no matter what I do. How f'n hard do they need to make this? Does anyone know how to get that metal piece to fit??

I opened up the spare to check how it was in there, and the damned thing popped out from the spare when I took the cover off. Now I have two useless keys and a car that is locked in the garage.

Thanks!! I finally got it to sit correctly after over an hour of trying with magnifying glasses. Found a picture that was not quite as good as yours, and it helped. But man was it frustrating.

Haha. Yeah, it's a pretty bad design. I have no idea why it's designed like that. It almost seems like such a design would actually increase the cost of it due to being a pain in the ass.

Enginerring spent $300 on the lower case and $12.00 on the actual remote. Hard to believe that this remote actually passed any type of testing it should have a warning, changing the battery quite possibly result in total remote failure. but it is part of the yearly service so we got that going for us.....

Nothing more frustrating than taking the battery out and googling for hours to find out how the damn thing fits in there...! I was at a restaurant and boy was I upset when I could not get the car open. After googling several pics I figured it out but damn!

Maybe that is why they charge so much to change the key fob battery during annual service... The labor involved!

We must of had the same problem simultaneously. Main key battery was low so got message key not found so used the spare one for a couple of days until I could change original.
When I went to do it the key fell into pieces so decided to open spare to see how it would go back together only for that to fall to pieces as well. Now getting very annoyed and frustrated as had 2 keys in pieces and not working just like you.

Eventually got hold of a picture from a dealer and put them back together only for the original "faulty" one to work properly

Sadly mine ended up with a visit to the dealership and a new key as when I did get the spare key back together it would say key not found in car.
200 mile trip to dealer on 2 different days to get it sorted in the end which was a 10 minute reprogramming of a new key.

Right pain in the bum and car out of action for a week

I changed my battery with no issues, only because I read this thread and was made aware of the problems. This forum is great!
