World Record Standing Mile By VelocityAP Tuned 570SS

Some real world results to share with the McLaren community. The Proof is in the pudding. Our partner in Florida Johnny Bohmer Racing took a select group of cars to the 10-29-16 testing session at Space Florida's Shuttle Landing Facility, Kennedy Space Center, FL. Amongst the runners were a few McLarens.

A stock P1, Stock 675LT and a 650S with some exhaust modifications. And finally, a 570S, built by Johnny Bohmer Racing with VelocityAP Cat Deletes, ECU Tuning and XPipe Exhaust.

The Results speak for themselves. Timed by Tag Heuer and verified by the International Mile Racing Association, these were the best runs for each car. The VelocityAP tuned 570S Obliterated the 650S, soundly beat the 675LT, setting an IMRA World Record in the process.

McLaren 675LT: 182.381 - Standing Mile Run

McLaren 650S: 170.425 - Standing Mile Run

Wow! Impressive! Would love to see what a similarly tuned 12C could do with the same driver.

Also, makes me want to wait 3 yrs to buy an out-of-warranty 570 and do this tune to it.

Thank-you!

We can achieve some very similar results on the 12C, have already done so on the 675LT and 650S.

be interesting to hear you speak of how stable the 570 was in comparison. others have told me that beyond 150 mph the 570 does not do well, curious on your experience of those three models or experiences of others who have taken each of the models to 200 mph. i can attest that aside from a little vibration the MP4 does well to 201 gps verified (could have been the tire balance)

Interesting question. On the day there was a pretty consistent 13MPH crosswind, marginally from the front. This is all second hand because I wasn't driving but Johnny has driven all of them, and is one of the most experienced mile racers out there.

He felt that the 570 was actually less twitchy than the others. P1 is the most aggressive, hunts the grooves a lot more. 650 & 675 have more downforce, but he was impressed with all the McLarens said they were pretty good at high speed.

If you look at the link to the IMRA website the full results are posted there. Includes an F12, 918, some interesting and rare cars.

Another interesting thing, not just with the McLarens is that the speedos are all way off at those speeds. Some of them are over reading by nearly 20MPH. But the timing and speed trap is all done by Tag Heuer and is insanely accurate and verified by IMRA.

Mine is about 3% high... what's interesting is that if I have the map active on IRIS, it shows the GPS speed which seems correct. So 80mph on the speedo will show somewhere around 77-78mph on the GPS. Would be nice to sync the two.

Very impressive performance!! Especially for a relatively inexpensive ECU tune and decat x-pipe.

Any sense what the run would have been with a pure stock 570s? I'm thinking 650s numbers since it has less aero resistance but also less hp. Congrats!

We have always aimed to offer good quality parts at a reasonable price point. If people want to spend $10,000 on an exhaust but we try to avoid adding unnecessary parts or frills which add cost, and to focus on performance and quality of construction.

I think a stock 570 would at leas give the 650 a run for its money. The drag coefficient is definitely lower and that makes a difference at these speeds. One of the most significant things about tuning the McLarens (all of them) is that they generate significantly more torque in the mid-RPM range. Which helps immensely in getting up to speed.

We achieved similar gains on the 675LT with a tuning package so I would expect a 650S to make some big strides forward with an exhaust & tuning combination.

Please post when you get "after" results for a 650S with ECU tune, cat bypass pipes and exhaust.

A buddy just did those mods to his new 488GTB and it was shocking how fast the car is. It makes my 650S feel much slower and I don't like that!!! Gotta get some bragging rights back!

We certainly will. I would expect them to be similar, or perhaps slightly better than what we achieved with the 675LT. We believe the 675LT is running the same hardware (turbos etc.) as the 650S, or at least extremely similar: http://www.velocityap.com/McLaren-67...aren675ecu.htm

I can tell you without question that at the very least the 650S will make similar gains to the 570 & 675 that we have already dyno tested. Both made well over 60WHP, and over 100ft/lbs torque in the mid-range RPM. And we enable left foot braking/brake boosting etc. along with the power increases.

When the opportunity presents itself we will get dynos done but I think seeing both of these other models perform so well there's no doubt the 650 will do the same.

I have a feeling the 570S tuning beasts will embarrass some very expensive makes..... better aero definitely helps that splendid 185 mph 1 mile trap... my tuned 650S certainly struggles above 150 mph vs what we would expect from power/torque curves

What whp and torque figures does your 570S as above put down ?

McLaren 650 S - custom exhaust, modded turbos bench tune
Porsche Turbo S - RWD

64 not out forever

That car put down 548WHP on a Mustang Dyno with VelocityAP Cat Deletes, ECU Tune and Exhaust. For reference, we have also run a 675LT on the same dyno, which made 539WHP on the same dyno with a stock tune and cat deletes (so we figure it would have made about 520WHP bone stock.) 675 with the tune finished up at 594WHP.

So what you can say conclusively is that the 570 finished up with at least 9WHP, probably more like 25-30WHP than a stock 675, which is getting it pretty close to the 700BHP crank range.
