AWE Tuning MP4-12C Performance Catalysts: Aggressive, unbridled and unique.

Verified to fit both the 12C Coupe and the 12C Spider, the AWE Tuning MP4-12C Performance Catalysts are the first in the world to feature 200 cell high flow catalysts.

Due to its dimensions, standard 300 cell HJS catalysts would have been far easier to fit into the McLaren. However, there is no HD (Heavy Duty) spec 300 cell HJS catalyst, and the close engine placement and power output that these catalysts are subject to in the MP4-12C, in our analysis, mandated better. The 200 cell HJS HD catalyst, while significantly more complex to integrate, afforded not only the durability we desired, but the added benefit of significant increased flow over a 300 cell count. In summary, we chose to not settle, because the MP4-12C deserves it.

Peerless build quality

AWE Tuning precision engineering and fixture development permits the factory heat shields to re-attach completely intact, with no deformation or subpar installation results. Further, our integration of proper articulating stainless steel fully lined flex joints provide proper torsional relief between the engine and the fixed muffler mounting points.

Besides factory correct fitment and long term durability, all this engineering adds up to an impressive +46hp and +61tq, as measured on the AWE Tuning in-house Mustang chassis dyno.

Introducing the AWE Tuning McLaren MP4-12C Performance Exhaust

The AWE Tuning McLaren MP4-12C Performance Exhaust is designed to perfectly smooth the aggressively raw tone that results from mating the AWE Tuning Performance Catalysts to the stock exhaust system. The resulting acoustic character is nothing short of breathtaking, offering a note that is both hard-hitting and exotic.

The exhaust is constructed from mandrel bent 304 stainless steel at 3” diameter throughout and features a small balance opening between the banks which produces the exotic, high pitched wail. The AWE Tuning Performance Exhaust features logo tips evoking the factory geometry in a discrete satin black finish, or an optional high profile bare stainless steel machined finish.

Options

The AWE Tuning McLaren MP4-12C System is available as a full package with choice of black or machined tips, or ala carte as either the performance catalysts, or exhaust alone.

AWE Tuning is now accepting orders, with a predicted delivery date of first orders in third week June.

I'm having a hell of a time finding insurance. So far only State Farm has said yes. Price was $6000/year. I'm 28 with a clear record and that seems pretty steep still. Though they allow storage insurance when not driving it so real cost is only like $2500.

I haven't been able to find a single other place that insures this car period. Before I give them any information I ask if they'll even insure it. So far no one will.

I already called: All State, Geico, Progressive, Liberty Mutual, Travelers, and Farmers. None would insure the car regardless.

McLaren Honda -- Should We Be Happy?

I was excited that Honda was going to join McLaren again. But now, watching Indy qualifying on TV, the 10 fastest are Chevrolet powered. The fastest Honda is 11th, and these are spec chassis and aero kits.

If Honda can't beat a Chevy, how can we expect them to beat Ferrari?

High octane gas in Quebec city?

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited with the wife at the Toronto Pfaff day at the Mosport track. While there I was told by an engineer that the fuel required for the 12C is octane 95.

I was a bit surprised since the highest I can recall seeing at the pump here in Quebec City is 91. I've made quite a few phone calls at most major fuel stations around and nobody has it.

Petro-Canada told me that they have it in Trois-Rivieres which is 140km away! Great if I'm on my way to Montreal but not so great if I need to do a 280km return trip just to fill up the tank!

Anyone else has had this problem and know of a workaround like fuel additives?

Soft Indoor Cover

One request for McLaren, please get a soft indoor cover made for the 12C & 12C Spider. The current outdoor cover McLaren offers is both too heavy and very over priced.

I am currently using an extra soft indoor cover I have from a Ferrari 430 on the 12C in the garage which just seems wrong......
